Day 14 – 8/15 Tide Pools & Newport

🐾 Jack’s Notes

This Guy! He left me forever x 22. The audacity! And… I saw him on the beach taking pictures – of what? I don’t know; silly shit. Who cares – he left me in a strange, but beautiful, well appointed, nicely designed home, with excellent landscape, and plenty of water… Regardless, I was all alone in a strange land – Oregon. Something about me tugging at him while he is trying to hold the camera steady, or not wanting to get my paws wet and sandy, or some other nonsense.

And today… no damn nap – would have been nice to snuggle when he returned from his long expedition but no… we went to a farmers market and he prevented me from lunging at the other dogs or tasting samples of all the goodies. But, we did go for a long, long walk – from downtown to the waterfront. He was upset because one of his favorite breweries – Rogue had shut down due to bankruptcy and was now occupied by Claim 52 Brewing. He seemed to like his IPA and I certainly liked the crispy fries; but poor, poor, poor Mike for missing Rogue Brewery – karma baby! Don’t fn leave me alone anymore.

Tide Pools

…and those big fat things in the water that bark like dogs – bark, bark, bark, incessantly; shut up for once! Huh… I seemed to have heard that directed at me before. Whatever. They were much more annoying, and I have now idea why crowds of people lined the dock to see them because when I came by most people turned their attention toward me – can I pet Jack; can I hold Jack, can I take a photo with Jack – those other dumb dogs just plain lost in the cuteness factor. Mike though – nope; facing the other side of the dock asking all sorts of annoying questions about catching Dungeness and rock crabs. Why? Crabs are not nearly as cute as I am! But, I do hope they are tasty ’cause he is gonna get some – and clams too apparently. Oh, and I’m filing complaint #347 because he let some child pick me up from the back in a bear hug move while their parents took pictures – humiliating!

Newport Farmers Market

Nice day in Newport, first on the beach, (and I see Jack put me out there) then the Farmers Market then along Bayshore. First of all that dog yanks my leash; literally and it’s no fun when I’m trying to get some shots. But, he was only alone for a couple of hours and I got some decent photographs. I made up for it by walking him for miles around Newport. It was sad to see Rogue was no longer there, both the Bayshore restaurant and the Brewery have closed. They made a couple of really good IPAs.

I also learned a lot about catching Dungeness and rock crabs. Then they told me where to go and how to get clams. In the evening Jack and I feasted on rotisserie chicken and salad from Fred Meyer.
